SmartPhone Revolution: Here To Stay

Like we’ve been saying for the past year, we are in the middle of a smartphone revolution. Less computers are being bought and people no longer just want internet in their pocket and hand, they demand it; it has become a normal staple of life to check things on the go off of your smartphone. Today the IDC reported that global smartphone sales in the 4th quarter of 2010 outsold PCs for the first time. We had thought we would reach an inflection point in 2012, but it’s happened earlier and quicker than anyone could’ve expected or imagined.

What’s more astounding is the growth of the numbers – 100.9 million smartphone units were sold in the 4th quarter’s three month period – up 87.9% from 2009 – if that isn’t some high powered growth we’re not sure what is. PC’s sold a stellar 92.1 million units during the same time period, which is also a record for PC sales, but nothing compared to smartphone sales.

Some analysts think there will be a growth of convergence platforms such as laptop docks for mobile phones, but over here at BuyBackWorld, we think the technology will move a lot quicker than expected and start to delve into holographic representations of images and keyboards a la Star Wars. Imagine your smartphone beaming your next corporate PPT  presentation on the boardroom slideshow or creating a mock keyboard on your desk for you to type on as you do from a desk top. Pretty cool, huh? Trekky? Maybe. Far off? Definitely not. It’ll happen a lot quicker than you think and of course BuyBackWorld will be there to help you upgrade to all the latest and greatest tech!
