iPhone 5 Release Day

Friday, September 21st, 2012

Today was the day we’ve all been waiting for – the famed iPhone 5 release. Two years in the making, an eternity in the Apple world and already well on its way to become the best selling smartphone of all time, the iPhone 5′s first official day of availability definitely didn’t disappoint. We headed down to our home away from home, the Apple store on 5th Ave and took in the scenery.

The line was wrapped around the corner to Madison Ave, but Apple definitely did a much better job of crowd control this time around considering the volume of sales. First off, they didn’t allow presale orders to be picked up in store, instead, forcing people to have them delivered to their homes and offices. This mitigated a lot of foot traffic in and around the store. Even so, that didnt stop the media coverage from dropping by to see the hottest iPhone release since the original phone debuted in 2007.

As always, there were plenty of companies promoting and spreading their brand awareness on 5th Ave and yours truly, BuyBackWorld, was front and center to it all. We stayed true to our roots and sponsored the one and only, world famous line sitter, Greg “the man on the streets” Packer. In true Packer fashion, Greg was the first person to emerge from the Apple cube with the heralded iPhone 5, erupting in a roar that was heard round the world!

The Apple enthusiasts all cheered him on as he climbed the stairs to the top of iPhone glory. Greg chose a black & slate iPhone 5 16GB on the Verizon network as his iPhone of choice for this year. We think this was a solid choice. Be sure to check him out as the “Official Face of the iPhone 5″ in Forbes, The NY Times, Yahoo! News, The Associated Press, Tech Crunch, Venture Beat, CNet, The Huffington Post, Chron.com, The CTPost.com, The LA Times,Whats-hots.com, DemoTix and various other publications.

Our famous “BuyBack Babes” were also present, educating consumers on the “History of the iPhone by BuyBackWorld.com” and joining in on the festivities.

We’re also posting some pics we took ourselves – let us know what you think. We hope to see you all down in NYC for the next Apple release, it was a great time for all!

Here’s some other articles with BuyBackWorld mentioned in them from today’s release. Feel free to post others to our Facebook, we’ll enter you in our iPhone 5 Sweepstakes!

Apple announced today that iPhone 5 preorders topped 2 million units in the first 24 hours of availability. Wow, that’s a lot of iPhone users upgrading :)

To put it into perspective, that is double the amount of upgrades which the iPhone 4S had in its first 24 hours last year, which is already the #1 selling smartphone of all time and the best selling iPhone to date. Translation? The iPhone 5 is poised to smash sales records.

Apple iPhone 5 Wrap Up

Wednesday, September 12th, 2012

Apple officially unveiled their next generation iPhone, the iPhone 5 today.

While most of the specs held true based on the leaks and rumors we had compiled over the past few weeks, we were still surprised by some announcements today.

First off, the total iPod revamp really impressed us. The multi-color enlarged screen iPod Touch, the “completely renanoed” Nano, and the new EarPods all made for a very impressive display. We can only imagine the numbers Apple will do this quarter.

Here’s a quick roundup of the iPhone 5:

  • PreOrders start Friday, September 14
  • Onsale starts Friday, September 21
  • iOS 6 coming out the 19th
  • 4″ retina display 9mm taller than the iPhone 4S
  • 18% Thinner/20% Lighter design than the iPhone 4 at 7.6mm thin and 112 grams in weight
  • 4G LTE Global connectivity which is faster than most wireless networks
  • A6 Chip which doubles the speed for graphics and performance
  • 8MP iSight Camera with panorama capabilities
  • 3D maps with Flyover
  • EarPod headphones
  • Lightning  connector which is reversible
  • Improved Siri
  • Updated iTunes

Preorders start in just two days so this is definitely the fastest iPhone rollout ever. Which color will you get?

Twas The Night Before The iPhone 5!

Tuesday, September 11th, 2012

Twas the night before the iPhone 5, when all through the night

Not a person was sleeping, not even an Android user with Jelly Bean as their latest delight.

The Apple overnight staff hung by the counter with care,

In hopes that the crowds soon would be there.

The media were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of 4G LTE and larger screens danced in their heads.

And Apple in their blue jeans and black shirts,

Have prepared our brains for how the future of mobile phones work.

When out on the stage there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from my computer to see what was the matter.

Away to my iPad I flew in a rage,

Tore open my Safari and threw open my favorite blog page.

The lights on the stage of the CEO

Gave the luster of a new iPhone announcement to the people below.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a newer iPhone, finally fully visible in the clear.

When a familiar figure, serious like a book,

I knew in a moment it must be Tim Cook!

More rapid than lines outside the store his news came,

And he presented, and shared, and called the new iPhone directly by name!

“This iPhone is the BEST iPhone in the world.”

On BGR, Engadget and CNET we read these words.

To the top of the charts! To the top of it all!

We all watched the keynote in awe of all that we saw!

As the audience rose to their feet with applause,

We were met with a slight grin and a slow pause.

“Oh yea, there’s one more thing” the words flew,

“Presales begin this Friday and on sale starts next Friday”, the rumors were true J

And then, in a twinkling, I watched on my iPad,

The full specs of the iPhone 5, smaller dock connectors with the largest screen an iPhone’s ever had!

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,

The keynote ended on my screen without a sound..

Twas The Night Before The iPhone 5!

Just a little fun from our staff here at BuyBackWorld as we anxiously await the announcement of the iPhone 5. We’ll provide live updates tomorrow and will announce our in-person promo after the press event!

iPhone 5 Event: September 12

Tuesday, September 4th, 2012

It’s almost here. The wait is almost over.

And, in typical Apple fashion it’s official. September 12, 2012 will be the official day that Apple announces the iPhone 5. Judging from the event picture that Apple sent out, the new iPhone will indeed be called the iPhone 5 and not the new iPhone like the current generation iPad. We are almost a week away from having all of our questions answered and rumors addressed, but now it feels longer than ever. Will there be new headphones issued with the iPhone? Is this the iPhone we all expected last year?

Speculation will continue, but here’s one video of a mockup we think accurately depicts what to expect from the new iPhone

An all-around workhorse with unique customer benefits, the HTC One X is the flagship of HTC’s One line of smartphones. Combined with the nation’s largest 4G network, with 4G LTE backed by AT&T’s HSPA+ network, the One X becomes the complete package for Android users.

AT&T customers have access to the nation’s largest 4G network, covering nearly 250 million people. As 4G LTE expands, AT&T customers are able to enjoy a widespread, ultra-fast and consistent 4G experience on their compatible device as they move in and out of LTE areas. AT&T has two 4G networks that work together for customers, LTE and HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul. With other carriers, when you travel outside of their LTE coverage area, you’re on a much slower 3G network.

Sound at its Finest

HTC One X is the first device from AT&T with HTC’s authentic sound experience featuring Beats by Dr. Dre Audio integration, offering rich, full sounds with professional-grade sound engineering to play the music how the artist intended. Beats Audio provides a distortion-free sound at higher volume and rich bass at all levels whether you are watching movies, playing games or streaming music. HTC One X is custom tuned for the best audio performance when used with Beats by Dr. Dre accessories,** including the Beatbox (AT&T exclusive), Wireless HD Stereo Bluetooth Headphones, Beats™ Solo™ HD Headphones, and UR Beats™ In-ear Headphones.

With built-in software on the HTC One X, customers can connect it to a computer and HTC’s Sync Manager software automatically installs to your computer and once connected, makes it easy to move music and playlists to your phone from your music library.

Entertainment Everywhere

Consumers’ ability to incorporate their smartphones into every aspect of their lives continues with the HTC One X. Watching TV shows or movies will be even more enjoyable on its 4.7-inch 720p HD screen with sharp images that appear detailed and visible from every angle – even angled up to 80 degrees. HTC Watch gives you access to thousands of Hollywood blockbusters and offers companion content to find out more about the film. You can begin watching the movie moments after it starts downloading and wirelessly share the content on any HD TV using HTC’s wireless HDMI Media Link HD adapter.**

The laminated cover glass and touch layer significantly reduce light reflection for superior sharpness and clarity, and is protected with Corning® Gorilla® Glass. HTC One X is made with a beautifully crafted polycarbonate unibody design that showcases its clean lines and seamless construction.

Superior Camera

For many consumers, their smartphone doubles as their camera. HTC One X’s 8MP HD camera features ImageSense and rivals traditional digital cameras with improvements to every part of the camera including the lens, sensor and software, while integrating HTC’s new ImageChip to make quality picture taking a breeze.

Fumbling with the menu and settings on your smartphone is frustrating when the perfect shot is right in front of you. Within seconds, you can launch the camera from the lock screen and the camera quickly autofocuses and zeros in on your subject. Zero shutter lag also lets you take continuous shots simply by holding the shutter button. HTC One X takes beautiful photos under low-light, no-light, and back-light conditions. The Video Pic feature allows the capture of still pictures while recording video in HD as well as the ability to capture a still image from previously recorded video.

The HTC One X’s next-generation 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon™ S4 dual-core processor allows customers to run heavy duty tasks such as creating and editing homemade videos smoothly without any lag, while the 1,800 mAh embedded battery, and software enhancements that improve battery performance by 50-100 percent over previous HTC phones, offers hours of uninterrupted entertainment time.

HTC Sense 4

HTC One X will be one of the first devices in the U.S. with the simple and intuitive HTC Sense 4 user experience. It helps make the Beats Audio experience possible while listening to any audio component and features camera enhancements including a quick launch feature for the camera on the HTC One X – dramatically cutting down the time needed to move from the lock screen to snapping a picture.

Instagram For Android Surpasses 1 Million Downloads in Less Than 24 Hours

Wednesday, April 4th, 2012

Instagram, the long beloved photography app for iOS users finally made it to the Android marketplace yesterday and in less than 24 hours, it was downloaded more than 1 million times. The Android application opened for its pre-registration last week and attracted a steady 430,000 users. When the app officially kicked off in the Google marketplace yesterday, downloads approached 2,000 sign-ups per minute, almost crashing servers.

New to Instagram? The popular app allows users to capture photos and edit them using a number of filters that give images a unique retro look. Pictures can then be shared with friends through Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and good ol’ fashioned email.

As the company urges, after 17 months all you Android users can now officially join the 30 million users on iOS to “transform everyday moments into works of art you’ll want to share with friends and family”.

Download the app from Google Play here.
