The famous french designer Philippe Starck is said to be working with Apple to design a revolutionary new product that will launch within the next eight months. He claims, “indeed, there is a big project together which will be out in eight months,” during a radio interview with the France Info which was published by French TV show, Le Figaro. Starck currently has several electronic devices he designed for sale in Apple stores, but has never worked directly with Apple before.
The designer claims to have met with Steve Jobs numerous times over the years, stating “For seven years I cam to see him once a month in Palo Alto and elsewhere. We liked to talk all things interesting.”
No exact confirmation on what the product might be, but it could very well be the next generation iPhone or the long awaited iTV. As it goes with Apple, only time will tell, because no secrets leave the coveted chambers of Cupertino.

Facebook announced today they will be acquiring Instagram for $1 Billion and the Instagram team will be joining Facebook.
Facebook CEO, Zuckerberg wrote:
I’m excited to share the news that we’ve agreed to acquire Instagram and that their talented team will be joining Facebook.
For years, we’ve focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we’ll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests.
We believe these are different experiences that complement each other. But in order to do this well, we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram’s strengths and features rather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook.
That’s why we’re committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people.
We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience. We plan on keeping features like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook.
These and many other features are important parts of the Instagram experience and we understand that. We will try to learn from Instagram’s experience to build similar features into our other products. At the same time, we will try to help Instagram continue to grow by using Facebook’s strong engineering team and infrastructure.
This is an important milestone for Facebook because it’s the first time we’ve ever acquired a product and company with so many users. We don’t plan on doing many more of these, if any at all. But providing the best photo sharing experience is one reason why so many people love Facebook and we knew it would be worth bringing these two companies together.
We’re looking forward to working with the Instagram team and to all of the great new experiences we’re going to be able to build together.

Facebook has chosen the NASDAQ stock exchange for their IPO some time next month and will trade under the ticker “FB”. While at this point, the listing won’t really change what we know about Facebook or how we view them in terms of earnings, it is a milestone for the company itself to reach being traded as a stock. This is a big win for the NASDAQ over the NYSE because it means more fees, a boost in trading revenue and the chance to work with the world’s largest social-networking site.
Facebook first filed with the SEC in February and is expected to raise about $10 billion when they go public based on a $100 billion valuation.
There will definitely be some high volume on this stock so if you’re a day trader looking to make a quick buck and there’s no vesting limits, this is the type of volatility you’ve been looking for.

Instagram, the long beloved photography app for iOS users finally made it to the Android marketplace yesterday and in less than 24 hours, it was downloaded more than 1 million times. The Android application opened for its pre-registration last week and attracted a steady 430,000 users. When the app officially kicked off in the Google marketplace yesterday, downloads approached 2,000 sign-ups per minute, almost crashing servers.
New to Instagram? The popular app allows users to capture photos and edit them using a number of filters that give images a unique retro look. Pictures can then be shared with friends through Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and good ol’ fashioned email.
As the company urges, after 17 months all you Android users can now officially join the 30 million users on iOS to “transform everyday moments into works of art you’ll want to share with friends and family”.
Download the app from Google Play here.

If you build it, they will come. The popular tagline from the 80′s hit, Field of Dreams, certainly applies to Apple developing a product. Back in 2007, when Apple first unveiled their iPhone, most manufacturers were not building touch only mobile devices. Sure, a few had been built here and there, but they were definitely not the dominating form factor. Fast forward to today and pretty much every top smartphone has a touch screen interface.
Same thing goes for the iPad – up until Apple started producing tablets, it was a pretty nascent industry, with no clear consumer market or dominating player. After the introduction of the “Post PC era” and the iPad, the tablet industry is now considered the hottest growing mobile industry out there.
When Apple introduced their mobile platform, they also introduced iOS to power all of their devices. Google shortly followed with Android to leave us with the mobile world as we know it today. It was only a matter of time before Google entered the tablet market directly with a Nexus tablet of their own and now we have full reason to believe that pictures of the actual device itself have surfaced via pocketnow.com.
The pictures indicate a very familiar design with SD slots, microUSB connections and a micro HDMI port. The tablet is rumored to enter production this month and ship in June/July.

Scientists have supposedly developed a “self-healing” plastic which was revealed at the American Chemistry Society’s annual conference at the beginning of this week. The plastic was demonstrated by University of Southern Mississippi Professor Marek Urban and is said to be able to respond at the molecular level and regenerate itself to repair scratches or cracks.
Obviously, numerous applications come to mind immediately and cell phones are at the top of that list. I bet you everyone readying this right now could take a look at their cellphone and notice a few dings here and there which they wish were automatically filled. Urban’s method repairs broken bonds when an outside stimulus is applied. What type of stimulus is needed? In this case, sunlight alone could very well do the trick. Urban says, “Our new plastic tries to mimic nature, issuing a red signal when damaged and then renewing itself when exposed to visible light, temperature or pH changes.” Pretty cool, huh?!
Watch out Zagg!

The red splotch forms when the plastic gets "injured" and can then repair itself

Google is all set to launch their Dropbox competitor the first week of April, according to recent reports. Dubbed “Google Drive”, the cloud based service will allocate 1GB of storage to users for free, with additional options available for a fee. By comparison, Dropbox currently offers 2GB of free storage.
Google Drive will reportedly also feature a domain-specific version for Google Apps customers and also supports an API for third-party developers. The storage device should allow users to store media such as photos, videos, and documents and will be accessible via Android devices.

Gaming has definitely taken the mobile world by storm. One of the best known games to ever hit our cell phones is the Angry Birds line, which has definitely taken days of our lives away from us at a time. No matter how many times we’ve played or how many times we go through the levels, we always have fun.
It’s nice to know we’re not alone here, as the latest installment in the Angry Birds series has already been downloaded more than 10 million times in less than three days. Yes, we typed that correctly: 10 million, not 1 million, ladies and gentlemen. That’s pretty impressive stuff right there. All those downloads definitely add up to some decent chicken scratch if we say so ourselves.
Angry Birds Space launched on Thursday of last week on iOS and Android devices, as well as on OS X and Windows PCs. The 4th Angry Birds release brings new features into play, such as zero-gravity planets, slow-motion, lightspeed destruction and over 60 new levels.

Angry Birds Invades Space!
So what’s the verdict? Good? Bad? The same? You tell us!
