Apple’s iPad Mini Press Event

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012

Apple held their iPad Mini event today in San Jose and they definitely surprised us with a few announcements. Here are the highlights from the press event:

  • Apple reveals the new iMac with a slimmed down design with Intel’s Ivy Bridge processors and Fusion Drive as a built-to-order option
  • Apple announces 4th generation iPad. Yes, you read that right. We thought this was an iPad Mini event people. Apple pulled a fast one and announced a completely updated 4th generation iPad which is essentially a hardware refresh of the iPad 3, with the new A6X Processors, a 720p FaceTime camera, and by now, infamous lightning port. Prices start at $499 for the 16GB WiFi version and $629 for the 4G versions

Whew! That was a lot to take in. Now that we covered all of the “side” announcements Apple made today, we can get into The Main Event: The iPad Mini.

Here’s what the Mini packs:

  • 7.9 inch screen with a 1024 x 768 display which is the same resolution as the iPad 2
  • 7.2mm thick and just .68 pounds light, it sports the same anodized edges as the iPhone 5
  • Powered by the A5 Apple CPU chip it runs LTE and has a 5 megapixel camera
  • 10 hours of battery life
  • New iPad Mini smartcovers in 5 different “flavors”/colors
  • 16GB WiFi model starts at $329, LTE versions begin around $450
  • Presale begins October 26, ship November 2nd

All in all, the event was very informative and we’re very, very excited to get our hands on all of Apple’s new goodies.

We’ll be down at the Apple store in NYC on 5th Ave to take in all the action and will report back live with a hands on once we get one!

Apple Sends Out Media Invites for the iPad Mini Event

Tuesday, October 16th, 2012

“We’ve got a little more to show you.”

That’s the words Apple sent out today for their much anticipated iPad Mini event. As earlier suggested, the event will take place next week on October 23 at 1PM EST / 10AM PST in San Jose, California.

Apple sent emails to members of the press Tuesday that stated, “We’ve got a little more to show you. Please join us for an invitation-only event at the California Theatre in San Jose on October 23 at 10:00 a.m.”

All details will be confirmed then, but the iPad Mini is expected to feature a 7.85″ display and price in the mid to high $200 range.

Early reviews have been, you guessed it, “amazing” and state the mini fits perfectly in the palm of your hand.

Apple sent out iPad Mini media invites today for an October 23 release.

iPhone 5 Release Day

Friday, September 21st, 2012

Today was the day we’ve all been waiting for – the famed iPhone 5 release. Two years in the making, an eternity in the Apple world and already well on its way to become the best selling smartphone of all time, the iPhone 5′s first official day of availability definitely didn’t disappoint. We headed down to our home away from home, the Apple store on 5th Ave and took in the scenery.

The line was wrapped around the corner to Madison Ave, but Apple definitely did a much better job of crowd control this time around considering the volume of sales. First off, they didn’t allow presale orders to be picked up in store, instead, forcing people to have them delivered to their homes and offices. This mitigated a lot of foot traffic in and around the store. Even so, that didnt stop the media coverage from dropping by to see the hottest iPhone release since the original phone debuted in 2007.

As always, there were plenty of companies promoting and spreading their brand awareness on 5th Ave and yours truly, BuyBackWorld, was front and center to it all. We stayed true to our roots and sponsored the one and only, world famous line sitter, Greg “the man on the streets” Packer. In true Packer fashion, Greg was the first person to emerge from the Apple cube with the heralded iPhone 5, erupting in a roar that was heard round the world!

The Apple enthusiasts all cheered him on as he climbed the stairs to the top of iPhone glory. Greg chose a black & slate iPhone 5 16GB on the Verizon network as his iPhone of choice for this year. We think this was a solid choice. Be sure to check him out as the “Official Face of the iPhone 5″ in Forbes, The NY Times, Yahoo! News, The Associated Press, Tech Crunch, Venture Beat, CNet, The Huffington Post, Chron.com, The CTPost.com, The LA Times,Whats-hots.com, DemoTix and various other publications.

Our famous “BuyBack Babes” were also present, educating consumers on the “History of the iPhone by BuyBackWorld.com” and joining in on the festivities.

We’re also posting some pics we took ourselves – let us know what you think. We hope to see you all down in NYC for the next Apple release, it was a great time for all!

Here’s some other articles with BuyBackWorld mentioned in them from today’s release. Feel free to post others to our Facebook, we’ll enter you in our iPhone 5 Sweepstakes!

Twas The Night Before The iPhone 5!

Tuesday, September 11th, 2012

Twas the night before the iPhone 5, when all through the night

Not a person was sleeping, not even an Android user with Jelly Bean as their latest delight.

The Apple overnight staff hung by the counter with care,

In hopes that the crowds soon would be there.

The media were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of 4G LTE and larger screens danced in their heads.

And Apple in their blue jeans and black shirts,

Have prepared our brains for how the future of mobile phones work.

When out on the stage there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from my computer to see what was the matter.

Away to my iPad I flew in a rage,

Tore open my Safari and threw open my favorite blog page.

The lights on the stage of the CEO

Gave the luster of a new iPhone announcement to the people below.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a newer iPhone, finally fully visible in the clear.

When a familiar figure, serious like a book,

I knew in a moment it must be Tim Cook!

More rapid than lines outside the store his news came,

And he presented, and shared, and called the new iPhone directly by name!

“This iPhone is the BEST iPhone in the world.”

On BGR, Engadget and CNET we read these words.

To the top of the charts! To the top of it all!

We all watched the keynote in awe of all that we saw!

As the audience rose to their feet with applause,

We were met with a slight grin and a slow pause.

“Oh yea, there’s one more thing” the words flew,

“Presales begin this Friday and on sale starts next Friday”, the rumors were true J

And then, in a twinkling, I watched on my iPad,

The full specs of the iPhone 5, smaller dock connectors with the largest screen an iPhone’s ever had!

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,

The keynote ended on my screen without a sound..

Twas The Night Before The iPhone 5!

Just a little fun from our staff here at BuyBackWorld as we anxiously await the announcement of the iPhone 5. We’ll provide live updates tomorrow and will announce our in-person promo after the press event!

iPhone 5 Event: September 12

Tuesday, September 4th, 2012

It’s almost here. The wait is almost over.

And, in typical Apple fashion it’s official. September 12, 2012 will be the official day that Apple announces the iPhone 5. Judging from the event picture that Apple sent out, the new iPhone will indeed be called the iPhone 5 and not the new iPhone like the current generation iPad. We are almost a week away from having all of our questions answered and rumors addressed, but now it feels longer than ever. Will there be new headphones issued with the iPhone? Is this the iPhone we all expected last year?

Speculation will continue, but here’s one video of a mockup we think accurately depicts what to expect from the new iPhone

New iPhone to Have 8 Pin Dock Connector

Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

While the build up to a new release of an iPhone (or any Apple product at this point) always fuels the rumor circle, new reports are stating that Apple will bypass a 19-pin dock connector in favor of an 8-pin dock connector much like the MagSafe connectors Apple currently uses on their Macbooks. iLounge also states that Apple may use iOS 6 to act as a bridge for Bluetooth 4.0 devices.

Most reports have pinpointed September 12 as the iPhone announcement, but of course, nothing is confirmed until you’re watching the live stream of the keynote.

One thing is for sure – the lines will be there – as this is the most highly anticipated and hyped up iPhone to date. Apple has a lot to live up to with the recent success of the Galaxy S III hot on their trails.

Leaked iPhone 5 Case Shows Thinner Device

Wednesday, June 20th, 2012

Mobile Fun reportedly got their hands on some “iPhone 5″ case diagrams and what they found is awesome. So far they can’t confirm if the documents are real or not, but the diagrams show that the new iPhone will be just 7.6 millimeters thick. To put that in perspective for you, the current iPhone 4S is 9.3 millimeters thick. That’s not the only change they reported, though. The diagrams also show a longer iPhone and slightly narrower iPhone. The casing has measurements of 123.83 mm tall, 58.6 mm wide and 7.6mm thick, while the current iPhone weighs in at 115.2 mm tall, 58.6mm wide and 9.3mm thick.

Reamining consistent with previous reports, the diagram shows the dock connector will be much smaller on the new iPhone, roughly the size of a micro USB port.

Apple WWDC 2012 WrapUp

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

Today was a big day for the consumer electronics world, as Apple hosted their annual WWDC . The conference started off with Tim Cook presenting Apple’s latest numbers, stressing the more than 400 million user accounts and more than 650,000 apps available for download in the app store. So far, these apps have amounted to over 30 billion downloads and Apple has paid out more than $5 billion to app developers thus far. Not so bad, huh? That’s over a billion dollars a year considering when the App store was first introduced by Apple.

Here are the highlights from WWDC 2012:

  • iOS 6 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch featuring 3D maps, Siri integration and turn by turn navigation. Wait til you play with Flyover, which allows you to explore famous cities across the world. It’s like a vacation in the palm of your hand.
  • Facebook integration
  • New OS X Mountain Lion with Notification Center, Dictation and more
  • Next Gen Macbook Pros with Retina Display available from Apple NOW!

Even though Wall St. didn’t react favorably to the conference, letting Apple drop 1.5% after the keynote, overall the show accomplished what Apple needed it to and if we’ve learned anything by now it’s that Apple operates on its own schedule so we will get what we all want in due time.

What To Expect From Apple’s WWDC This Year

Friday, June 8th, 2012

Apple’s annual WWDC starts on Monday of next week, and as always, people are curious what to expect. Here’s the rundown of what you should look for:

  • iOS 6 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices – key points will be a totally redesigned Maps App with 3D maps, Facebook integration, refreshed UI etc
  • Apple TV updates – rumors are flying and right now it’s anyone’s guess what the Apple TV announcement will be
  • Macbooks with Retina Displays – How would you like to own a Macbook with Apple’s famous retina display?
  • New Mac Pros, New iMacs – Apple is expected to announced major updates for their bigger devices

Lots of people felt let down last year with WWDC when Apple didn’t announce the release of the new iPhone, but with this year’s list of rumors running wild about what WWDC should have in store for us, we think people are just fine with the new Fall iPhone release schedule. It seems like Apple isn’t looking to stop their reign of world domination on consumer electronics any time soon.

Live updates to follow on Monday from WWDC.
