Apple Increases iPad with Retina Display to 128GB

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013

Apple officially unveiled their new iPad model with 128GB for the iPad 4 with Retina Display. The upgraded model will go on sale next week, Tuesday February 5th, in both black and white. The WiFi only version will sell for $799 and the 4G LTE counterparts will go for $929. Pricetag sound hefty? Apple has priced them right under their lightest computer, the MacBook Air, so it would see that they are fully supporting their self-proclaimed Post PC era.

While there had been rumors of two new iPad models hitting shelves in March, this announcement makes it seem likely that we will instead see a new iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 in the fall.

What To Expect From the New iPad

Tuesday, March 6th, 2012

Will it be the iPad 3 or the iPad HD? Will there be an iPad mini? These are all questions that will be announced officially tomorrow by Apple in San Francisco at their press conference. Following their usual tight-lipped ways, Apple hasn’t indicated to us one way or another any details regarding the 3rd generation iPad, but their suppliers have done their part and “supplied” us with this information:

  • HD Display – The new iPad will feature a Retina HD Display that packs 4x as many pixels (2,048 x 1,536) in the same 9.7″ frame. How’s that for some juice?
  • 4G LTE – It’s about time Apple picked up the 4G brigade and led us to the glory land of high speeds on our networks
  • Quad-Core processor – Following suit with previous releases, the new iPad will feature a quad-core A6 processor
  • Improved Battery – the battery will need to be improved to power the new screen so expect at least as much battery power from this iPad
  • Better Camera – We’re not exactly sure of the megapixel count yet, but it will definitely be an improved lens
  • iOS 5.1 – Expect Apple to ship the new iPad with 5.1
  • Thicker casing – to power that new screen, Apple had to make the new iPad slightly thicker

While none of this is confirmed yet, all of our questions will be answered tomorrow. The iPads will sell at the same prices as they usually do, with the WiFi only version debuting at $499. Whether or not we will get the iPad mini is still yet to be determined, but don’t be surprised if Apple also unveils a 8GB model of the iPad 2 a la the iPhone route.

We’ll have all the details live from the press conference tomorrow so tune in!

Another Big Day For Apple

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

Today was another big day for Apple, as they held an education announcement at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City to announce Textbooks for iPad. Apple will not completely turn the industry upside down (not yet anyway), but they will provide students with a modern, interactive approach to learning through digital textbooks.

Students will be able to highlight text, takes notes, create note cards and use multitouch gestures to interact with their textbooks. McGraw Hill, Houghton Mifflin and Pearson have all signed up to offer textbooks at $14.99 or less for high-school level editions with more to follow.

Apple has also introduced iBooks Author, which allows users to easily build and publish digital books for Apple’s iBooks store, much like Apple’s iWorks apps. No official word if they will be called iTextbooks just yet – anyone wishing they could go back to school and learn on these new textbooks?..

To go along with their textbook announcement, Apple also unveiled a new version of its iTunes U product, which brings an iBooks interface to iTunes U. So far, iTunes U has primarily been used for lectures, but it can be used to manage curriculums, give assignments and stream live content. iTunes U is available for download in the App Store today.

Apple also filed a patent with the USPTO which could reveal next generation battery designs which are composed of a set of electrode sheets, enabling much thinner batteries due to a variety of design possibilities.

Finally, the iPad 3 rumors are heating up, as images found in the latest iBooks  app show a high-def iPad display sporting a quad-core Apple A6 processor, 4G LTE support and twice the battery life of an iPad 2.

Time will tell, but looks like quite a busy year for Cupertino in 2012. Oh yeah, have we mentioned we haven’t even gotten to the iPhone yet?
